Born on 7 April 1962 in Berlin – Member of DIE LINKE since 12/2016 Senator for Urban Development and Housing in Berlin 2011 - 2016 Member of the state parliament of Berlin, deputy chair of the parliamentary party of Die Linke and spokesperson for urban development, building and housing  2006 - 2011 Senator for Health, the Environment and Consumer Protection in Berlin  2001 - 2006 Borough councillor with responsibility for urban development in the local authority of Berlin-Lichtenberg 1996 - 2001 Research associate in the parliamentary party of the PDS in the state parliament of Berlin 1987 - 1996 Research associate at the Institute for Urban Planning and Architecture at the Bauakademie in the GDR and its successor institution, the Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning at the Deutsche Bauakademie in Berlin and Erkner.  1981 - 1986 Studied at the University for Architecture and Construction in Weimar; completed diploma in engineering and urban development
